So, I had the worse Fashion Week ever.
It was so horrible in fact, that I’ve just now chalked up enough nerve to talk about it.
-Day One-
I arrived to New York with the wrong schedule. Somehow, I mixed up the dates for the shows that I was invited to and arrived to Lincoln Center a weekend too early. Luckily, I wasn’t turned away at the door. (Thank God for a cute face and a smile.) But I definitely had to wait in the stand-by line for a seat to see an actual show.
What made this situation unbearable for me was the fact that I brought a friend with me. Usually, I venture to NYFW on a solo mission, meeting up with industry friends once I get there. But this year, I decided to bring along my best guy-friend who had never been to Fashion Week before.
I wanted to show him a good time but instead, I ended up showing him how to slide past security when you’re rejected at the door. A good lesson, yes. But not one I wanted to teach at the time.
Fortunately, we made it in and the shows went on.
-Day Two-
I did have the correct schedule for the Chloe Gosselin presentation that I was invited to, however. So, I knew day two would be better.
Joke was on me though.
My friend and I arrived at the Lori Bookstein Gallery just slightly after the event started. I wanted to get there reasonably early to grab an interview with Chloe then head back to DC before traffic became unbearable.
As soon as we stepped into the gallery, I immediately noticed how lovely the shoes were. Absolutely fabulous! Her use of colors, textures and fabrics made my heart jump. I loved the fur lined tie up heels and the snake skins pumps. Not to mention, the metallic peep-toes. Ahh! I was in a little piece of heaven.
Insert embarrassing moment here:
Noticing all the shoes, my mind completely ran away from me. I was still a little flustered from the situation at the door the night before. So, when Chloe’s PR rep came to introduce herself to me, I was at a loss for words.
Instead of saying how much I loved the fur on the shoes (because I really do love fur) I instead said “I love how Chloe is incorporating open toed shoes in her line.” WTF?! Of course she would incorporate open-toed shoes in her line. This was a Spring collection. DUH!
What made matters worse is that I said it AGAIN when another PR rep greeted me.
Needless to say, I appeared to be the ditzy-chick in the room. I probably shouldn’t have been invited.
I was ready to dash out the door. But lucky for me, her PR saw fit to make an introduction between Chloe and I. Before I walked across the room to meet her, I asked my friend if he could grab a quick picture of the two of us while I was interviewing her. He agreed without hesitation. And in no time, I had my phone’s voice recorder out grabbing a great interview with the honoree.
The interview went great. All of which, you can hear at the bottom of this post. But as soon as it was over, Chloe and I both turned to pose for a pic from my friend. Horrified, I noticed that not only was he not ready to take a pic of us, he was actually on his phone, scrolling through Facebook the whole time. He didn’t snap a single photo.
No photo pretty much meant I had no proof that I was even there. And after the time I was having, I almost wish I wasn’t.
I was too embarrassed to yell at my friend to look up and snap a pick. So, I just thanked Chloe and walked away. There was another photographer there, a professional one, who claimed to have grabbed a picture. But I’ve searched all over the internet and haven’t found it yet.
Such is my luck. *Deep Sigh*
Well, at least I have the audio recording. Take a listen below.
